Lake Forest and Piano Power

Piano Power has deep roots in Lake Forest.  We’re proud to have been part of the community since 2001.  And we watch with pride as Piano Power students (and alums) rock the annual Lake Forest High School Talent Show!

Age recommendations

Any Lake Forest student aged 7 to 107 can benefit from private guitar instruction.  Students younger than 7 have achieved success as well — it’s worth considering on a case-by-case basis.  For most of our Lake Forest guitar students, the necessary hand strength develops around age 7.  Guitar students who have had a couple years of piano background find it particularly easy to jump right in.

Practice expectations

Your guitar teacher will work with you to create a practice plan that works for your student’s schedule.  The single most important element of guitar practice is regularity.  We know our Lake Forest guitar students are busy!  But devoting even a modest amount of time each day to guitar practice produces much better results than relying on weekly “cram sessions.”  Ideally, your student will make guitar a regular part of his or her day.

No guitar required… at least, not right away

For your student’s first lesson, a guitar is not required — a student can share with his or her teacher.  During the lesson, the teacher will be able to advise you on what kind of guitar (three-quarter size or full-size; acoustic or electric) makes the most sense for your student.  After the first lesson, we recommend that your student acquire a guitar of his or her own, so that practice becomes a regular part of the day.

Piano Power recitals

After a minimum of three months of Piano Power guitar instruction, your guitar student will be eligible for participation in the Piano Power recital.  Our guitar students have added tremendous excitement to our recitals.  From classic-rock hits to original compositions, unaccompanied or with vocals, solo or as part of a duet — the performance possibilities are limitless, and thoroughly crowd-pleasing.

We’re ready to match you with a great Lake Forest guitar teacher!

We’d love to talk more with you about our terrific Lake Forest guitar teachers, and how to get the most out of your guitar student’s experience.  Our abiding goal is that our students develop a lifelong love of music.  Call Piano Power today at 773.547.2426, or email us at info@pianopower.org.
